I’m so lucky to have had the opportunity to have an hour long conversation with Marketing Consultant Mary Czarnecki.
As an undergraduate, Mary studied biology and did her senior thesis on “wild horse behavior”. SO interesting! She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and an MBA with a focus in Marketing at Yale University. Since earning her advanced degrees, Mary spent her entire career in Marketing with big brand companies, like Johnson & Johnson and WebMD. She’s obviously brilliant yet super down to earth. She describes herself as the “marketing geek girl next door”.
It was really, really hard to edit this episode down from over an hour to just over 30 minutes! In our conversation, we discussed “audience intelligence” (how to get intelligent about who your audience is), and she explains the difference between an actual brand versus brand “elements”. Mary outlined the components of building a personal brand and she walked us through her process as if we were a new client of hers starting up a new business.

Mary Czarnecki is a marketing and online business strategist with nearly 20 years experience in marketing strategy, brand management and digital advertising with such companies as WebMD and Johnson & Johnson.
Today, Mary works with entrepreneurs and business owners to generate profit growth and greater impact by connecting to their ideal audiences online. Mary was previously the Director of Strategic Account Development with WebMD, where she delivered innovative online marketing campaigns for some of WebMD’s largest clients, including Clorox, Target, and Walmart.
When Mary is not busy helping her clients grow their businesses online, she loves spending time with her husband Chris and her two boys. She loves the outdoors and is always up for a hike in the woods or a weekend camping trip. She’s a former Jersey Girl now raising her business and family in Oregon’s Willamette Valley wine country.
